For the first time in decades, one of the iconic narrow gauge steam trains from the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway is leaving her Aberystwyth home - by road.
No.1213 'Prince of Wales’ engine, in her newly repainted livery, and weighing over 24 tons, is being transported to Birmingham NEC (National Exhibition Centre), where she, and a sister engine from the same shed, will form the centre-pieces of the annual Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, the largest model railway show in the UK, this coming weekend
This year’s display celebrates the 175th anniversary since the opening of the Swindon locomotive works by showcasing some of the Swindon’s finest locomotive designs. Traditionally the Vale of Rheidol lacked its own workshop facilities its trio of locomotives periodically returned to their Swindon roots for heavy overhauls.
