Aberystwyth Wales UK, Friday 22 January 2016
Thousands of starlings take to the skies above Aberystwyth pier at sunset before settling for the night on the Victorian structure’s cast-iron legs in a spectacular ritual repeated daily during autumn and winter
Each evening between October and March tens of thousands of the birds fly in huge ‘murmurations; in the sky above the town before settling to roost for the night on the cast iron legs of the Victorian seaside pier. Aberystwyth is one of only a handful of urban starling roosts in the UK. Although plentiful in Aberystwyth, the starling is on the RSPB’s ‘red list’ of endangered species in the UK
